Geographic Location
Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province, is situated amid a hilly area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and 300 kilometers away from the river mouth to the East China Sea.


Climate
The historical average climate during the conference at Nanjing is: at the temperature of 75-86 F (25-30 C), mostly sunshine, and a little windy.

City Culture and Attractions
Nanjing is a city known for its rich culture, long history, and beautiful landscape. In 472 B.C., Goujian, the king of Yue State, started to build the city. After that, Nanjing was ever the capital of ten periods in Chinese history, including Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, Chen, Southern Tang, Ming, Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and Republic of China. These eras left behind many famous attractions including: the willowed banks of Xuanwu Lake, the bright lights and river scenery of Confucius Temple, the ancient city wall (one of the best preserved walls in the world), the World Heritage-listed Mingxiaoling Mausoleum, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum, the Jinghai Temple, the residential Palace and many, many other places of historical interest.

Ming City Wall: Nanjing is surrounded by a 33.7 km-long ancient city wall. The wall was constructed from 1366 to 1387 in the early Ming dynasty, also called the Ming City Wall. The wall is still largely intact and regarded as one of the best preserved city walls in the world.

Confucius Temple: The Nanjing Confucius Temple, built in 1034, is a place for consecrating and worshipping Confucius, the great thinker and educator of ancient China. After multiple dynasties' expansion and reconstruction, the temple turns into complex buildings exhibiting versatile architecture styles, including the Confucius Temple itself, the Jiangnan Gongyuan (the place for imperial examinations), and the Xue Gong (the Imperial Academy).

Mingxiaoling Tomb: The Mingxiaoling Mausoleum, one of the most splendid and biggest imperial tombs in China, is a joint burial tomb of the first Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang (1328-1398) and Empress Ma in Ming Dynasty. Construction of the mausoleum began in 1381 and was completed in 1431. The mausoleum lies at the foot of Zi Jin Shan (the Purple & Golden Mountain) in the east suburb of Nanjing. The mausoleum is a certified UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must-see for travelers to Nanjing.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum: Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) was a great forerunner of the Chinese democratic revolution, proclaiming to the world the spirit of Freedom, Equality and Fraternity. He led Chinese people bringing down the regime of the Qing Dynasty and became the father of the Republic of China. Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is also located at Zi Jin Shan (the Purple & Golden Mountain).

Xuanwu Lake: Located at the center of Nanjing with 368 hectares of water and 104 hectares of land, the Xuanwu Lake is a favorite resort for visitors. Many local residents and travelers come to walk, jog, fly kites, practice Tai Chi, and enjoy the scenery each day.
